The changing face of SEO

Let’s be honest - SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is all about pleasing Google - and with the increasing use of Google +1 the SEO game is becoming personal. It used to be about algorithmic weightings, relevant links, authoritative content and general common sense - but these days there’s a new prize: sharing. Getting your content shared between friends, colleagues, circles via +1 is a new and far more targeted enterprise. Now your content counts in a far more important way: people actually need to care about it.

The good news is this ‘sharing’ is essentially word-of-mouth advertising, which is the best possible way to get your brand in someone’s mind. So, when key ‘influencers’ like you, or when people in the same +1 circle as these influential people give you the google thumbs up, your brand is essentially being marketed for free by the best salespeople on the web.

Good site SEO still plays by many of the same rules, but making use of the new personalized structure of Google - and the clearly personalized direction that it seems to be taking - is going to place different demands on businesses and how targeted their marketing efforts should be. Make sure your web design and content are well-positioned to be shared by members of your target market and if your design team or web development agency isn't proactive, you should be: by finding a new web design firm.
